In this essay, the influence of the insight and the scientific work of Albert Einstein in shaping modern Cosmology, and therefore the actual image we have of the universe, is reviewed from a historical perspective. At the end, we shall briefly present some topics that will play a major role in the Cosmology of the newly born XXI century.
