Abstract

Lean Six Sigma (LSS) has proven effective in improving quality and operational efficiency in the automotive industry. The objective of this study is to analyze trends, thematic focuses, and gaps in the application of LSS through a systematic review based on the PRISMA protocol. A total of 81 studies published between 2003 and 2025 in high-impact databases were analyzed. Results show sustained growth in literature, predominantly in research on continuous improvement and quality (20%), LSS tools (17%), and operational management (16%). In contrast, areas such as automation, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics are marginally represented, highlighting a significant gap between LSS and Industry 4.0 capabilities. It is concluded that, while LSS has reached methodological maturity, it faces a critical transition toward digital, sustainable, and integrated approaches. A future agenda focused on the convergence of LSS, artificial intelligence, and sustainability is proposed.
