Abstract

Our contemporary society faces socio-environmental problems that threaten its future. This fact demands the search for new alternatives to confront, reduce, and ─if possible─ eradicate those challenges. Given this situation, digital technologies stand out as an option. The aim of this research was to determine which digital technologies significantly influence when addressing the main socio-environmental problems that today's Mexican society experiences. A systematic review of published works on research variables was conducted; it was complemented by a content analysis and validated using linear regression models. Results revealed that Big Data, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and Autonomous Robots are the most crucial technologies to solve socio-environmental problems. This suggests that, although technologies are often seen as part of the problem, they have the potential to solve it and promote sustainable growth for the benefit of current and future society.
