Abstract

A total of 60 000 mite species have been described worldwide, and 2 625 in Mexico, including representatives of the orders Mesostigmata, Ixodida, Trombidiformes, and Sarcoptiformes that act as rodent ectosymbionts, although knowledge of them in northeastern Mexico remains limited. The objective was to compile and systematize records of ectosymbiotic mites associated with rodents in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, documenting their richness, hosts, and distribution. Information sources from 1943 to 2025, including publications, databases, and biodiversity platforms, were reviewed, and criteria of taxonomic validity, geographic accuracy, and data cleaning were applied. A total of 32 mite species, all associated with cricetid and heteromyid rodents, were recorded, with the highest richness in Coahuila (14), followed by Nuevo León (13) and Tamaulipas (9). Information gaps and sampling biases persist; therefore, morphological and molecular studies should be strengthened to assess diversity and its health relevance.
