Abstract

Alternative tourism largely depends on climate and other natural resources available at the local level. This study aimed to analyze the perception of climate change among owners of touristic centers in the High Mountains Region of Veracruz. A simple random sampling was used, and a structured questionnaire was applied to 43 owners, of which 72% were men and 28% were women, aged 31 to 60 years. 77% reported knowing what climate change is, associating it mainly with rain, heat, and pollution, particularly with higher temperatures and stronger cyclones. Prior to analyzing perceptions, the observed climate impacts in the region were presented to provide context. 67% considered climate change a matter of concern, and 98% believed that the population should be involved in mitigation actions. It is concluded that the owners lack a clear understanding of climate change and the magnitude of its effects.
