Abstract

Hybrids Helios and PX11459057, as well as the Jaguar variety of habanero pepper, were established to evaluate their productivity and fruit quality under the agroclimatic conditions of the Mexicali Valley. Crops were established in shade netting conditions. The design was done in random blocks, and treatments corresponded to the three habanero pepper genotypes. For productivity, the variables evaluated included number and weight of fruits per plant; and for fruit quality, weight, length, and diameter were measured. Results showed that the three genotypes adapt to Mexicali Valley's conditions, although hybrids stand out in terms of precocity and production, compared to the Jaguar variety. Hybrid PX11459057 was remarkable in productivity and fruit quality; therefore, it is considered as a better option for habanero pepper cultivation in the Mexicali Valley.
