Abstract

The research that produced this article is descriptive and comparative, and its main purpose is to determine the prevalence of Professional Burnout Syndrome (PBS) in a population composed of 120 physicians who provide services in a private SME status clinic-hospital of the State of Guanajuato, Mexico. The method used is based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire, translated into Spanish by Seisdedos (1997), which considers factors such as emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA). Processing of the obtained data was done using descriptive statistics, specifically correlation coefficients and significance tests that were calculated using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 15 for Windows. The results yield relationship between the prevalence of (PBS) and the following variables; gender, age, marital status, years of service, number of jobs or number of hours worked.
