Abstract

Rhizoctonia is an economically important disease in agricultural crops. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pathogenicity of Rhizoctonia species associated with potato, bean, and maize in original hosts and cross-inoculations. Twenty-four isolates were collected during the 2021–2022 fall-winter growing season in northern Sinaloa. Morphological and molecular analyses identified Rhizoctonia solani (AG-4 HGI and HGIII) in all three crops, Rhizoctonia binucleata in bean, and Rhizoctonia zeae in maize. All isolates were pathogenic. In potato, the severity reached 24.6 cm² of black scab on tubers; in bean, germination was reduced to 0%; in maize, the affected area on the leaf sheath achieved 15.1 cm². R. solani
AG-4 HGI was the most aggressive group, showing significant differences (p > 0.05). This indicates that crop rotation between these crops is not viable for disease management.
