Concentraciones de plomo en sangre en población infantil de Velardeña, Durango: un estudio preliminar

Resumen

El plomo (Pb) es especialmente dañino en niños debido a que su organismo es más sensible a sus efectos tóxicos. Niveles bajos de exposición ambiental pueden afectar el sistema nervioso, el desarrollo neurológico y el crecimiento. Esta investigación tuvo como propósito medir los niveles de Pb en sangre en niños de entre 6 y 12 años, residentes de Velardeña, Durango. Para ello, se aplicó la técnica de espectrofotometría de absorción atómica (AAS) en muestras de sangre total de 20 niños. Se obtuvo un promedio de concentración de 10.90 µg/dL, sin diferencias significativas entre sexos o grupos etarios. Todos los participantes superaron el límite máximo permitido (5 µg/dL) establecido por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), lo que resalta la necesidad de realizar un monitoreo constante de la exposición a Pb en comunidades vulnerables y tomar acciones preventivas ante una probable exposición al metal.
