Abstract

This paper presents a description about the fingerprints and its characteristics, as well as the extraction of their characteristic points by means of the application of the program NFIS (NIST Fingerprint Image Software) developed by the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in conjunction with the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), the description of some tools, as well as a general view of a system AFAS (Automatic Fingerprint Authentification System) and of a system AFIS (Automatic Fingerprint Identification System).
