Abstract

Every set of ideas can be understood, under semiotic assumptions, as a textual structure and as a cognitive model. The analysis of the cognitive models allows us to find some connotations which open access to most of the meaning of such set of ideas. In the present work, we will review the movie Arrival (2016), in which we will locate the participation of certain cognitive models and their respective fundamental notions. This procedure will allow us to approach deep levels of significance refering to various prevailing ideologies in Occidental culture that are close to the moment of production of the film. In a way, the ideological participation, somewhat veiled, complies with the basic assumptions of globalization and, therefore, the rules of the film market. We refer to the resolution of a world conflict based on western models.
