Abstract
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.) is a legume with high nutritional value, and knowledge of its diversity and
agronomic potential contributes to establishing the bases for its conservation and sustainable use. Therefore, the goal
of this work was to identify the morphological characteristics and the agronomic behavior of 20 cowpea cultivars in
Yucatan. A field experiment was carried out based on a randomized complete block design with three repetitions.
Descriptive statistics and variance analysis were carried out. Additionally, a cluster analysis was performed using the
UPGMA method. High morphological variability was found among cultivars. Cluster analysis grouped cultivars into
four groups based on morphological and origin characteristics. Cultivars 1, 10, and 13 with short cycles and high yield
stood out as candidates for a regional improvement program.
