Abstract
The present transversal and descriptive study had the objective of knowing the level of the self-care of two groups of the population: the health professionals and university professionals in other areas. A self applied questionnaire was designed with questions related to the physical, emotional and life relation’s realms.The survey was applied to 204 professionals: 102 were men and 102 women; this group was composed of 66.66% health professionals and 33.33% of university professionals in other areas. The results showed that as far as Physical health, the health professionals provide themselves with more self-care than their counter parts in other areas, but smoking is present. In other aspects like gynecological and urological visits, self mammal exploration and emotional realm the university professionals of other areas get higher percentages than those in the health area. It is concluded that the health professionals incurred in more harmful practices than the other professionals and that the formal preparation received influences decisively in the self-care that they lavish in.
