Abstract

Anxiety is a natural response to a perceived threat or danger, characterized by tension, worry, and physical changes. This study evaluated anxiety in first- and last-year medical students during final exams. A cross-sectional design was used where the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was applied to 117 students. The chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests were applied for the analysis of data. Results showed that final-year students exhibited higher levels of moderate anxiety, while first-year students showed higher levels of severe anxiety. Factors such as academic workload and economic situation did not show significant differences between groups. Self-reported anxiety was higher among final-year students, suggesting greater awareness of their mental health. Psychological support and longitudinal studies are recommended to explore the progression.
