Abstract

It is necessary to use the appropriate techniques and methods according to the subject matter under study for the development of qualitative social research. Testimony is a qualitative research technique used for data collection which is derived from the biographical method. Testimony involves either an author or a witness, whose voice reflects their own experiences and could, even, involve a whole community. We refer, then, to a reconstruction of events stemming from one’s own recognition and of otherness. We subsequently present the preliminary research results of a project entitled Implementation of an educational cognitive model in the acquisition of spelling skills in adolescents, between the ages of 14 and 16, in an educational institution in the region of Heredia research which was conducted during the year 2013. Testimonials from students are analyzed along with the problems they face in learning to spell, in order to determine the possible causes that lead to dysorthography.
